residences of the Conti Bernardini of Lucca, built in the "Stile Impero
Lucchese" at the beginning of the 19th century and set in a beautiful
estate with vineyards, olive groves and magnificent gardens. Situated
in the verdant Tuscan countryside and set in a most beautiful and
tranquil location, the Villa is surrounded by the pine covered hillsides
of Vorno and San Lorenzo. Built at the time of the Napoleonic empire
and steeped in history, the estate has endured an interesting past.
At the foot of the steps leading to the main entrance there is an
antique marble bath said to have been used by Elisa, Napoleon Bonaparte's
sister. During the Second World War the villa was first occupied by
Herman Goering's division of the German army and then taken over by
the Buffalo division of the US army. After the war it was returned
to the original owners and has been lovingly cared for by the same
family ever since. |

a formal dining area, a large antique open fireplace and comfortable
sofas and armchairs. This second floor apartment sleeps 8 people and
offers a spacious floor area of to 220 metres. Entrance to the Villa
is on the ground floor and is shared with the owners. A private staircase
leads to the apartment. 3 large, air conditioned double bedrooms one
of which has an original slightly smaller (1.4 metre) Hollandaise
carved beadstead. 1 large, air conditioned twin bedroom with en-suite

- The East side of the Villa has been given over to a splendid raised
swimming pool which measures 18m x 8m with a deep end of 3m and diving
board. The pool is surrounded by terracotta tiles and dressed with
comfortable summer furniture. One end is shaded by an ornate gazebo.
A little further away there is a covered area with a complete outside
kitchen and barbecue for dining "al fresco" in the warm summer evenings.
For the more energetic there is a private hard tennis court situated
to the right of the building where centuries old trees provide a natural
shelter from the sun. There is also a large, private lake at the top
of the surrounding hills about 4 kms away where guests are welcome
for swimming, water sports or fishing. The warm and friendly owners,
Giuseppe and Mara who live on the lower floor of the villa and speak
English, French, Spanish and Portuguese are very discreet and unobtrusive.
